“From working at home to social contact at Business Centre”
Edwin van Zantvoort

When Edwin of Van Zantvoort Administraties started his own business, he still worked from home. At first that was practical, but he soon ran into limits. "I was growing and didn't want to receive that many clients at home. I also noticed that I missed having people around me," he says. The line between work and private life also blurred more and more. He lost the feeling of "going to work" and then really "going home".

Why did you want to rent a workplace?

"You can of course buy or rent an office yourself, but then you are still alone. That wouldn't have solved my 'problem'." Edwin has now rented a space outside the home for 15 years. He felt at home in the first building, but over time ran into limitations. "The building was not well maintained, I wanted to work closer to home, and sometimes after 10 years you are simply ready for something new."

What Edwin needed was clear: a professional place to receive clients, enough space, also for meetings, an accessible location closer to home and an environment with people to spar and network with. This search brought him into contact with Daniel, owner of Business Centre. Even though Edwin had strict requirements, something Edwin and Daniel still joke about, it clicked immediately. "I went to see what was available in the area. When I walked into Business Centre, it felt right straight away."

Why Business Centre?

"What I like is that there are no surprises. Want to book a meeting room an hour in advance? One call to the reception and it is arranged. Want to work on a Saturday? Daniel makes sure that is possible. No hassle and easy communication." At Business Centre several companies share one roof, which makes the contact so diverse. A chat at the coffee machine is not only pleasant, it also leads to valuable collaborations.

Business Centre in a few words

Edwin now feels completely at home in his office at Business Centre. "How would I describe my workplace in a few words? Simply a pleasant, spacious workplace." Anything that could be improved? Edwin laughs: "A cosier canteen maybe, then more people would have lunch there, which increases the chance of networking." But that is not a requirement for him. The environment is quiet, professional and at the same time social when you want it to be. And Edwin's clients are received professionally and hospitably by the friendly ladies at the reception.

What does this office bring you?

"I work in a pleasant environment, which means I enjoy going to work." And how do his clients react? "Honestly? Even if I worked from my shed at home. Clients don't really care where I am, as long as I deliver quality. Of course it is nice that they are received in a friendly way."

What do you advise other entrepreneurs who hesitate about renting an office?

"Are you on your own or with two people? Do it! It expands your network enormously, provides social contact and keeps work and private life separate."

How does this working environment prepare you for the future?

"I'm already 56," Edwin jokes. Although Edwin does not necessarily want to grow and currently even has a client stop, the possibility is there. "If I ever want to grow, I can simply move to a bigger office here. That is a nice thought."

When did it become clear that you made the right choice?

"The moment I realised I wanted more social contact and wanted to enjoy going to work. That starts with a pleasant workplace. I found it here."
